Virologists have discovered a blocking coronavirus drug | News | News

Canadian scientists from the University of Alberta have discovered a drug that effectively blocks coronavirus. The study appeared on April 13 at the Journal of Biological Chemistry.

It turned out that the drug “Remdesivir” (RDV), created to treat Ebola, can block the reproduction of the new SARS-COV-2 coronavirus in the body.

Scientists noted that they tested the drug against Middle Eastern respiratory syndrome (MERS) and SARS-COV SARS, similar in structure to RNA with coronavirus.

“We got almost identical results with SARS-CoV, MERS-CoV and SARS-CoV-2,” the study said.

According to virologists, Remdesivir can be regarded as a direct-acting antiviral agent against SARS-CoV-2.

They noted that clinical trials of the drug are also necessary, since it is still difficult to talk about its effectiveness in real conditions.

April 13, it became known that Japanese scientists discovered the effectiveness of the antiretroviral drug Nelfinavira against SARS-CoV-2.

According to experts, this medicine for HIV, used even in small doses, stops the replication of the virus.
