Flemish virologist Marc van Ranst has challenged supporters of the fugitive soldier Jürgen Conings in their Telegram group. Van Ranst, who has been in hiding with his family for ten days because Conings would have provided it for him, wrote that he was disappointed with “the creativity that bubbles up here”. “Level zero, but yes, what did we expect from a group of terrorist supporters.”
Van Ranst confirms opposite the VRT that he sent the chat messages himself, in the night from Tuesday to Wednesday. “That was not smart,” he says in a short response to the Flemish broadcaster.
The well-known virologist is more pronounced. Last week he called Virus Truth foreman Willem Engel a crazy person. That Twitter conversation was turned on thanks to entrepreneur Alexander Klöpping a few thousand billboards shown.
New search
Conings has been searched for a week and a half after he left a military barracks heavily armed. He left a suicide note with threats to the government, the military and virologists. He wrote “not to surrender without a fight”.
This morning, a large police force is again on its feet at the Hoge Kempen National Park, just across the border at Geleen. There was also already searched for Conings and his car was found. A spokesperson for the federal prosecutor’s office says against The standard that they are looking in an area above the N75.
Made big mistakes
Conings gets online support from tens of thousands of sympathizers, who feel that he needs psychological help and that the manhunt is disproportionate. They hope he can return home safely and that nothing will happen to him.
Defense Minister Ludivine Dedonder and army top man Michel Hofman have acknowledged that major mistakes have been made in the Conings case. For example, the soldier was on the list of potentially dangerous extremists of terrorism watchdog OCAD, but he was still able to take a large arsenal of weapons with him from the barracks. Conings has also been up since last weekend Interpol’s international investigation list.
