Bonn virologist Hendrik Streeck does not want a fourth coronavirus vaccination given in the short term.

Berlin / Bonn – “I will no longer be vaccinated against Corona this fall because I have now been vaccinated three times and once in the summer,” said Hendrik Streeck of the “Bild” newspaper (Wednesday). His immune responses are “strong enough”. The infection acts as an “additional booster”.

Corona vaccination: no fourth spades for virologist Streeck

At the same time, Streeck stressed: “I wouldn’t need a fourth vaccination if I didn’t have an infection, even though the number of infections is expected to increase again in the fall and winter.”

The 45-year-old also justified his personal decision with the recommendation of the Standing Vaccination Committee: “The three vaccinations provide excellent protection against a severe course in healthy people under the age of 60.” The vaccination committee recommended for risk groups and people over 60 years of age.

The Bonn virologist also works in the federal government’s Corona Expert Council. In early September, he had already warned against too high expectations for new adapted Omicron vaccines. “You have to say very clearly: the use of the adapted vaccine is not necessary for everyone,” Streeck said in an interview with the dpa.

The Bundestag recently approved new crown rules for the fall. Vaccination also plays a role in this. (Dpa)
