The virologist Hendrik Streeck calls for the immediate start of a political analysis of the corona pandemic. “In the election year of 2025, no one will definitely want to tackle this in the traffic lights,” said the doctor, who is running for a Bundestag mandate for the CDU in Bonn, in an interview with the “Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger” (Tuesday edition). Streeck contradicted the view of his Berlin colleague Christian Drosten, who said that Germany had largely come through the pandemic well. Reviewing the Corona period in this way is not a reappraisal as he understands it. It’s about “real learnings”. The best form for this is a Bundestag study commission.
“It was wrong to put this kind of pressure on the unvaccinated,” Streeck continued. Last but not least, the opposite of what was wanted to achieve occurred. “The pressure has caused the willingness to vaccinate to stagnate.” In order to provide more professional scientific support for political action, Streeck proposed the new position of chief advisor to the federal government.
