Migrant workers who work in distribution centers of online supermarkets are at high risk of becoming infected with the corona virus. This is evident from an investigation by the Investico Journalism Investigative Platform, The Green Amsterdammer and VPRO radio program Argos,
Conversations with, among others, thirty employees of online distribution centers of Albert Heijn and Jumbo show that they cannot keep enough distance during their work. This is due to the high demand for groceries and the tight layout of the warehouses. Because the migrant workers are housed together, travel to work together and continue working when they are sick, the contagion risks only increase.
Spokesmen for the two supermarkets emphasize that it is absolutely possible to keep a distance of one and a half meters with all the measures taken.
An episode of Argos about this subject can be heard on NPO Radio 1 this afternoon at 2 p.m.
