Virologist: “Coronavirus in Belgium quietly getting better under control” | Abroad

In the past 24 hours, 113 people died from the effects of the lung virus. Hospitals reported 60 deaths, nursing homes 53. This brings the total number of deaths to 7207.

There are now 3,968 people in the hospital, 903 of whom are in intensive care units. 600 patients are on ventilation.

553 new confirmed Covid-19 cases were added. 214,042 tests have now been carried out in Belgium. The total number of confirmed cases stands at nearly 47,000.

Relaxation from 4 May

Van Gucht called on the Belgians to continue to apply the restrictive measures this week and to stay at home as much as possible. As of May 4, the measures will be relaxed, but then everyone above 12 years old will be obliged to wear a mask in public transport and in places where a 1.5-meter distance cannot be guaranteed. This weekend, virologist Marc Van Ranst warned that if the number of hospital admissions does not drop below 100 a day, it will not open all stores on May 11.
