Georgia Tech (3-5, 2-4 ACC) played with a second-half comeback but couldn’t get over a first half in which the Yellow Jackets allowed Virginia Tech (4- 4, 2-2) the penultimate ranked offense in the conference at 329.7 yards per game to tie that distance en route to a 20-7 lead.

Braxton Burmeister completed 15 of 25 passes for 254 yards and two touchdowns for Virginia Tech, and Turner was his go-to guy by far as the junior racked up a career-high receiving yards.

Georgia Tech running back Jahmyr Gibbs ran for 113 yards and almost gave the Yellow Jackets the lead in the end to slip over wet turf.

First, after Georgia Tech moved closer to 23-17, Gibbs punched a gaping hole above the right tackle for what looked like a possible 81-yard touchdown run.

He had one last defender to worry about, safety coming from midfield at an angle.

Gibbs cut, but it didn’t hold up on slippery ground with intermittent drizzle on a cool, gray day.

A few games later, Georgia Tech coach Geoff Collins went for the fourth and 1 for Virginia Tech 12.

The Hokies held on.

From there, the visitors nibbled 7:01 on the clock on a 12-play, 85-yard drive that ended in a 21-yard field goal from John Parker Romos with 4:21 to go.

If the Yellow Jackets had converted a field goal on the previous disc, they would still have been in a one-point game.

Take it away

Virginia Tech: The Hokies were far more efficient compared to their recent game, and Turner was by far the better player on the field. Perhaps all the fuss over job security for Virginia Tech coach Justin Fuentes will ease a bit.

Georgia Tech: The Yellow Jackets find ways to lose. The defense played in the first half as if they wanted to give up even more yards than the 636 they gave up a week earlier to Virginia, but as they hardened in the second half, the talent Jackets for untimely penalties and bad play / decisions did it. them in it.
