While a few months ago no candidate had really revealed himself, Carlo Calenda, MEP and founder of the party Action now seems ready to take up the challenge. For him, the observation is clear, “the management of the city by Raggi was disastrous, today Rome is one of the worst capitals in the world. ”
Virginia Raggi, towards a victory by default
The first term of the unpopular Virginia Raggi, first woman mayor of Rome is drawing to a close, and the least we can say is that it will have disappointed the Romans. Elected in 2016 under the political label M5S (5 Star Movement), his career has never ceased to be splashed by scandals ranging from influence peddling to dark dating stories with the Mafia. The anti-system councilor was also noted for his “lack of feminism” and his refusal to provide concrete aid to the International House of Women from Rome.
While she had virtually no solid opponent, Virginia Raggi seems, for a few weeks, to be worried. Caught in the grip of the incompetence lawsuit brought against him by his opponents, the candidacies of personalities such as the independent Enrico Michetti, the very young Federico Lobuono, Vittorio Sgarbi, but above all Carlo Calenda, are small stones in his shoe. Will that be enough to make her fall from the municipal chair? Not sure.
With the exception of Michetti and Calenda, resistance to Raggi remains relatively weak, notes American journalist Alan Friedman. However, the latter is far from giving Carlo Calenda the winner of these elections, despite the fact that he is “more competent and pragmatic”.
No one wants to be mayor of Rome
Disliked by politicians from traditional parties, the Eternal City is far from creating enthusiasm as the municipal elections approach. Rome has been plagued by decades of mismanagement, and few are willing to jump into the Roman arena.
Engaged in an active campaign under the slogan “Roma sul serio”, the leader of Azione, however refuses to admit the idea that Rome is “an ungovernable city”, while recognizing that the work to put it back on its feet is titanic . Promoter of a participatory and above all transparent democracy, Carlo Calenda has built his program thanks to the work of 500 associations of citizens who have helped him to develop solutions responding to the problems that Romans face on a daily basis.
