Virginia Bazán Gil: The new president of FIAT/IFTA

The director of the RTVE Archive, Virginia Bazán Gil, is the new president of the International Federation of Television Archives (FIAT/IFTA).

At the recent general assembly held in Bucharest, Romania, Virginia Bazán Gildirector of RTVE archivewas chosen president of the International Federation of Television Archives Associations (FIAT/IFTA). This appointment is not only a recognition of his work in the organization, but also of his dedication to the preservation and enhancement of audiovisual heritage worldwide.

Since 2016, Bazan Gil has been actively involved with FIAT/IFTA. He has participated in numerous international conferences and at the same time carried out his work in the conservation of audiovisual archives at RTVE.

Her appointment as president reinforces RTVE’s position within the federation and underlines its commitment to the global preservation of audiovisual archives.

A Leadership Trajectory

Virginia Bazán Gil at FIAT/IFTA had an important career since she was elected member of the Executive Commission in 2018. During her mandate, especially in her two periods as Secretary General (2020-2024), she was in charge of the administration of the federation and the organization of high-level international events.

One of his most significant achievements has been the organization of important FIAT/IFTA conferences. These included online events in 2021 and in-person meetings in Cape Town (2022), Locarno (2023) y Bucharest (2024). His leadership was key to the success of these conferences, consolidating FIAT/IFTA as a reference in the conservation of audiovisual heritage. With Virginia Bazán Gil at the helm, RTVE reaffirms its commitment to the global mission of FIAT/IFTA. The RTVE Archive not only preserves Spanish audiovisual heritage, but also actively contributes to international collaboration for the management and conservation of archives.
