sport">The defender’s previous contract expired in the summer of 2023. Due to the extension, that has now become 2025. “I have felt at home here since day one,” explains Van Dijk. “I immediately felt so much appreciation from the staff, players and fans, which gave me the confidence that I could become important for this club. Even despite last year’s injury, I am enjoying my time here and I want to continue to do so for years to come.”

sport">Van Dijk made his professional debut at FC Groningen, after which he ended up on Anfield Road via Celtic and Southampton in January 2018. Liverpool paid almost 85 million euros for the mandekker, who already won the Champions League and Premier League with the club.

sport">Van Dijk was seriously injured in the derby against Everton in October, as a result of which he missed the European Championship with the Dutch national team. The defender is only now fit again and was in the starting line-up for the first time last week during an exhibition game. With that, he seems completely ready for the Premier League season that starts for Liverpool on Saturday with an away game against Norwich City.
