New Delhi: India’s world-class batsman Virat Kohli will reportedly not play in the upcoming T20 Cricket World Cup. National media reported that the selection committee was not interested in including Kohli in the team and discussed the matter with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

While many young players are proving their talent in this format, the news is that the selection committee has decided not to include Kohli, who has not been active in T20 for some time.

The T20 World Cup will be held from June 1 to 29 in the US and West Indies.

The final decision will be made after considering the performances in the IPL starting on March 22.

The reasons are many

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have not been active in the format since playing in the semi-finals of the 2022 T20 World Cup in England. After that, both played against Afghanistan in January this year. Kohli could not find a big score (29, 0) in both these matches. Rohit Sharma, on the other hand, scored a brilliant century (121*) on his comeback.

Considering the defeat in the recent ODI World Cup final, the Indian Cricket Board decided to give Rohit one more chance to win the World Cup as a captain. BCCI says that Rohit will play in the World Cup. Secretary Jai Shah clarified. Meanwhile, there is no such certainty with Kohli.

The selection committee is not interested in including two senior players Rohit and Virat Kohli in the XI. It is doubtful whether Kohli will be able to play to the full extent of the team’s needs in this format. There is also an assessment that the slow pitches in the West Indies will not suit Kohli.

After 2013 India ICC No tournament titles won. So the goal of the team is to win the title.

Yashaswi Jaiswal, Rinku Singh, Sarfraz Khan, Dhruv Jurrell, Arshdeep Singh, Tilak Verma, Shivam Dubey, Akash Deep and many other young stars are waiting for more opportunities. Most of the newcomers introduced recently by the Ajit Agarkar-chaired selection committee were successful. The potential team for the World Cup should be submitted to the ICC in the first week of May.

India will play in Group A along with Pakistan, USA, Ireland and Canada. The first match is against Ireland on June 5.
