Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

People’s fear Afghanistan continue to be in the public’s attention after Taliban power. Now, a video has gone viral showing a Taliban member standing behind a television broadcaster holding a rifle.

This video caught the attention of netizens after a journalist BBC, Yalda Hakim, posted it on Twitter on Monday (30/8).

In the video, a male news anchor is seen talking on television. Behind him stood a row of so-called Taliban members.

“This is how the political debate is now on Afghan TV. Taliban soldiers are watching the presenters,” Hakim wrote in the caption.

He later explained that the presenter was talking about the downfall of President Ashraf Ghani’s government.

“[Ia] say that the Islamic Emirate [Taliban] asking Afghans not to be afraid,” Hakim wrote.

Hakim’s tweet was immediately flooded with comments. Most netizens are worried for the safety of Afghans after the Taliban came to power.

There are also those who insert joking criticism, one of which is a citizen who owns the @ArKayDian1 account. He wrote, “If he [pembawa acara] unscripted, the person in the back (told the cameraman to stop them and signal what was going to happen to the broadcaster).”

He then uploaded a video clip of the film The Dictator, in which the leader moves his hand like slashing his neck as an order for execution.

Although the Taliban said they would be more open, some residents are still traumatized by the group’s atrocities when it came to power in 1996-2001.

At that time, the Taliban implemented Islamic law very conservatively. Women were barred from work and school, while citizens found violating strict regulations could be stoned to execution in public.

Now, the Taliban claim to be more open, but reports on the ground suggest the attitude of some members of the group has not changed.
