Viral video of police ambushing car drivers related to drugs in Jakarta, turns out to be wrong

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Polda Metro Jaya clarified information regarding a viral video showing a car driver being ambushed by a group of people in the Muara Baru area, Penjaringan, North Jakarta.

In the video, the driver of the car is seen being stopped by a group of people carrying objects suspected of being firearms. The driver was then asked to get out of his vehicle.

The Head of Public Relations of the Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Endra Zulpan also denied a number of information circulating that the video was a robbery of a motorist in North Jakarta.

According to him, the incident caught on camera was the process of arresting someone in the context of developing a narcotics crime case by the Central Jakarta Metro Police Narcotics Unit.

“It has been clarified that it was not a robbery. The video was during the development of a narcotics case,” said Zulpan when confirmed, Thursday (9/3/2022).

At that time, said Zulpan, the man was immediately secured by the police for further investigation regarding his alleged involvement in drug cases.

After being examined, investigators confirmed that the man was not involved in a narcotics crime case that was being developed.

“It has been investigated, the result is that those arrested in the car are not involved with the target being chased by the police,” said Zulpan.

At this time, Zulpan confirmed that the driver of the car had been released because he had no connection with the target of the police pursuit.

“So the point is it’s just a misunderstanding, actually. The people are all clean, not involved, so let’s just be released,” he concluded.
