An invitation to a beach party posted on the video portal TikTok led to a rush of guests with many arrests in Huntington Beach, California.
As the police of the beach town announced on Sunday, 149 teenagers and young adults were arrested on charges of vandalism or disturbance of the peace. According to US media reports, the event announced by a TikTok user on Saturday night attracted over 2500 people to the coastal town south of Los Angeles.
The police reported that the amount had grown quickly and was no longer controllable. The authority imposed a nocturnal exit ban. More than 150 police officers intervened after some people threw bottles and stones and set off fireworks, according to the news. Shops, stalls and patrol cars were damaged as the crowd moved across the promenade and through the town.
