Viral Video Fuel Prices in Sorong Reach IDR 50,000, Pertamina Says

KOMPAS.com – Circulating a video with the narration of the City push, West Papua is experiencing a fuel crisis (BBM).

This account shares a short video that says that fuel crisis in Sorong has been going on for four days.

“Push this boss, the fuel crisis has been around for 4 days, this is real, not a hoax,” said the sentence written in the video circulating.

In the video, it appears a boy who is suspected of selling 1.5 liter retail fuel with mineral water bottles priced at Rp 50,000.

As of Wednesday (10/11/2021) morning, the video has been viewed more than 56,000 times by netizens.

Area Manager Communication, Relations, and CSR of Pertamina Patra Niaga Sub Holding Commercial and Trading Regional Papua Maluku, Edi Mangun said that the issue of the fuel crisis in Sorong was a hoax.

“100 percent hoax,” said Edi, when contacted by Kompas.com by telephone, Wednesday (11/10/2021) morning.

He said that since Friday (11/5/2021) until today, Wednesday (11/10/2021) the issue of the fuel crisis has surfaced, a total of 6 gas stations in Sorong City have never closed because they ran out of fuel.

According to him, gas stations will continue to serve the community as usual according to their operating hours.

“Today I want to convey what happened in Sorong, since Friday this issue started circulating, until today, there are 6 gas stations in Sorong City, that’s a total of 6 gas stations that have never closed, according to operating hours,” he said.

200 percent supply

According to Edi, all gas stations in Sorong receive normal fuel supplies depending on the size of the gas station capacity. Some receive 15-30 kiloliters per day.

“As long as this issue is circulating, on average we supply up to 200 percent of each gas station, meaning that if it was 20 kl, yesterday we supplied up to 40 kl,” explained Edi.

“But my question is, where is the 20 kl that is excessive, it just disappears, and then there are retailers who sell it at high prices,” he added.

His party appreciated the Sorong Police for securing dozens of illegal retail fuel sellers who set prices above the standard.

“Alhamdulillah, the Sorong Police Chief has ordered to secure it, so approximately 21 illegal retailers have been arrested who sell at prices far above the highest retail price,” said Edi.

Pertamina ensures that fuel supply is maintained

According to Edi there are three issues circulating, the first is the issue pertalite will be removed, then the second issue is pertalite will rise in price.

Meanwhile, the third issue is that the fuel at the Sorong Depot has run out or is empty.

“How can you say it’s empty, the 6 gas stations are sold according to operating hours, and what comes out of the nozzle into the cars and motorbikes is fuel. The proof is that until today there are no cars that have broken down on the road,” he said.

Currently, Pertamina is focused on serving the community by ensuring the supply of fuel to gas stations is maintained.

“We are only carrying out the task that we continue to supply to gas stations, serve the community as usual, we coordinate with the police to take care of what happens outside the gas station,” said Edi.
