Videos of a speed camera operation in Hamm are currently being viewed millions of times online. A resident of Werler Strasse uploaded clips with funny comments to the “Tiktok” platform – and thus achieved a viral hit.
Hamm – The resident from Hamm smugly comments in three videos, each around 30 seconds long, on how rows of drivers in the new 30 zone in front of the children’s clinic fall into the speed camera trap of the enforcement trailer set up there. The videos had been viewed 3.7 million times by Tuesday evening. Ascending trend.
Resident: “At first I thought it was already New Year’s Eve.”
“At first I thought it was New Year’s Eve because it was so bright outside,” the young woman introduces the first video. She apparently filmed the radar operation from the window of her apartment. “It’s time to collect a little money again just before Christmas,” she says, looking at the speed camera trailer set up by the city. The clip is accompanied by the Christmas hit “Rockin’ around the Christmas tree”.
Commenting on the speeding offenders caught gives the resident audibly joy. She jokingly warns pedestrians and cyclists that flashlights are being used – so that they don’t fall into the camera trap. “It’s a really bad feeling knowing that he’s about to get caught. “He doesn’t know yet,” says the young woman, amused, as a car rushes up and shortly afterwards it lights up red.
In the second and third videos, the resident even starts to rhyme. “Mom hits the gas again, it’s going to be expensive fun,” she jokes in front of a car. “A little red car is racing straight into the speed camera,” it says as a red car approaches. “What the good guy doesn’t know yet, driving fast has its price,” she calls after a Mercedes driver who has been speeding. “You can see whether the speedometer is turning high enough when the light comes on,” the woman rhymes before it lights up red again.
Users find the videos “better than television”
The videos are not only clicked millions of times, but also commented on thousands of times. “Better than TV,” says one user. The creator of the videos is happy about the Lippewelle about her success online and has already announced more such videos on Tiktok. “A heated discussion has broken out about whether this 30 zone is justified,” says the resident about the comments. “In general, these mobile speed cameras don’t have that many fans in our city.”
However, many users apparently support the city’s speed camera campaigns. “Many voices have also been raised in favor of this speed camera. Simply to better protect the environment with the children’s clinic and the EVK.”
