FAJAR.CO.ID, JAKARTA — A video circulating on social media of the Presidential Chief of Staff, Moeldoko doing tayammum on the train when he was about to pray.
However, unfortunately Moeldoko’s method was considered wrong because he rubbed his lower body until it touched his feet.
It is necessary to know the basis of performing tayammum according to the Al-Qur’an surah an-Nisa verse 43 which contains:
“And if you are sick, on a journey, or have just come from the toilet, or have ever touched a woman, and you do not get water, then do tayammum with good (holy) soil; wipe your face and hands” QS an-Nisa:43.
It is clear that tayammum can only be done firstly when sick and secondly while traveling, defecating or junub.
Then, what is the correct procedure for tayammun according to the Shari’a?
Then how do you do tayammum in cars, buses, trains, planes and ships because you are traveling and what are the conditions that must be met?
Procedure for Tayammum:
- Prepare holy earth or dust that comes from a clean place.
- Facing the qibla, saying basmalah.
- Place both palms into the dust, fingers pressed together.
- Then blow your hand, then wipe it all over your face by reading your intention.
Latin Tayamum Intention Reading:
“Nawaytu tayammuma li istibaakhati sholati lillahi ta’ala”.
It means :
“I intend to do tayammum so that it is permissible to pray for the sake of Allah.”
- Smooth the dust all over the face. Tayammum is not required to wipe under the hair or facial hair.
- After wiping your face, put your hands back on the dust, preferably in a different place. Then, stretch the fingers. If there is a ring it should be removed first.
- Wipe the left palm on the back of the right hand towards the inside of the arm up to the elbow. Vice versa.
- Swipe your left thumb over the right thumb section. The same is done on the left hand.
- Bring your palms together and swipe between your fingers as a seal.
- Finally read the prayer as follows.
“Asyhadu Allaa Ilaaha Illalloohu Wandahuu Laa. The Story of Anna Muhammadan ‘Abduhuuwa Rasuuluhuu, Alloohummaj’alnii Minat Tawwaabiina Waj’alnii Minal Mutathohhiriin” (Elva/Fajar)
