The video is 36 seconds long and was uploaded a week ago.
Afghanistan’s ruling Taliban government has not yet commented on the viral video. If the video of the execution is confirmed, it would contradict a promise by the Taliban leader on August 17 that it would guarantee amnesty for deposed government workers and protection for women.
“I want to reassure the international community, including the United States, that no one will be harmed,” said Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid while reaffirming the Taliban leader’s pledge. “We don’t want internal or external enemies.”
The video shows five of the six militiamen carrying rifles, and the sixth holding two bloody knives in one hand. The seventh person is recording the activity.
The victim was wearing a brown uniform, the service uniform of an Afghan police officer. The national army attack is blue.
The knife-wielding assailant, who appears to be the leader of the group of executioners, is seen raising his gun in the air. In the translation given to Washington Examiner by a US military source, the men were heard shouting the word; “Mujaheddin!”
