On social media, a viral video of a student riding a motorcycle is reprimanded by a police officer. The student was reprimanded for driving without a helmet.
The viral video was uploaded to Instagram by Commission III DPR RI Deputy Chairman Ahmad Sahroni. In the video we see a student being stopped by a police officer.
“Don’t lead by example, okay? This kid was given a good lesson by mistake, but he skips…

I want to be fined but I can’t anymore due to the rules of police chief @listyosigitprabowo.
.
but not in this fine, so how is it???” Sahroni wrote on her Instagram account.
According to Sahroni, this incident took place in the Sidoarjo police area. “(The incident to) Sidoarjo police. Yes, it is true that the motorbike is Jakarta registered,” Sahroni told detikcom on Monday (11/21/2022).
The student in middle school uniform was seen to be stopped by the police and given a warning. Police gave a warning because the student was not wearing a helmet. Even the middle school student does not have a SIM.
“You can’t. You have to wear a helmet. If you don’t wear a helmet, it’s dangerous. The helmet will be taken, then it will be put on later,” the police officer said.
The student argued whether or not he was wearing a helmet. However, the police officer pointed out that the helmet is for safety and head protection.
The officer then asked the student to go to the police station and his parents were asked to take the helmet. “Later, when you have a helmet, you can bring the vehicle,” she said.
The student was also angry that he didn’t accept the video. To the extent that harsh words came out of the high school student’s mouth.
Meanwhile, this rebuke was made because there were instructions from the national police chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, that field agents should not issue manual tickets to avoid extortion. However, with manual tickets no longer in existence, many motorists have no fear of police officers in the field.
It must be prosecuted
The driving safety professional, who is also the director of Defense Security Consultant Indonesia (SDCI), Sony Susmana, said a manual ticketing system is still needed for certain violations. He said relying solely on the electronic fines system would not have a deterrent effect.
“So the police need to start deciding which ones to act on, fines or arrests. Shouldn’t wearing a helmet be allowed? This is a form of concern on the part of officers. If it is not checked, it is bad apart from not creating a deterrent effect , a snowball effect, is also embarrassing when viewed by guests outside. In terms of the level of safety, traffic conditions in Indonesia have decreased,” Sony told detikcom on Monday (11/21/2022).
According to Sony, warnings against offenders should only be made for minor errors such as going the wrong way, not stopping neatly at a stop line at a red light, or violating road markings. While serious violations should receive rigorous action.
“Actions are performed when he violates danger, is not wearing a helmet, is reckless, and so on,” he said.
“In my opinion it needs to be re-evaluated. All right, there’s no fine, but it’s stationary, you can’t ride a motorcycle until you buy a helmet, for example,” he continued.
