I’m going to tell a story.

Violinist Yoo Si-yeon, who unfolds a creative world of music by going back and forth between baroque, modern, classical music, and world folk music based on elegant interpretation, innate delicacy in tone, and unique classical purity, went to study in the United States while attending Seoul National University and went to Curtis Curtis Institute. After attending the Conservatory, he received a master’s degree from the Royal College of Music and Yale University, and a doctorate from the State University of New York. Namyoon Kim in Korea and Aaron Rosand, Rodney Friend, and Syoko Aki overseas. He studied under Lazar Gosman and developed his musical world.

A work that represents Yoo Si-yeon’s identity is ‘Yoo Si-yeon’s Theme Concert’, which has been held every year since 2002. While consistently demonstrating his own new interpretation of classical repertoire, he has expanded the horizons of violin music by breaking away from standardized boundaries and conducting in-depth research into tango, world folk music, baroque music, and religious music. In particular, public awareness was raised through Piazzolla’s tango music, and this project was released by the SONY label. [Pasion, Amor & Piazzolla]It was followed by an album titled.

Furthermore, Yoo Si-yeon expanded her interest to Korean traditional music and developed the world’s first ‘Yoo Si-yeon’s Korean traditional music performance technique’, which allows the violin to express nonghyeon, sigimsae, and shading used in Korean sounds. Based on this, a new combination of Korean and Western music was attempted by playing ‘Arirang’, ‘Boheoja’, ‘Hanohbaeknyeon’, and ‘Pungnyeonga’. This was performed at the ‘Berlin Philharmonic Hall’ in Germany and Trinity College at Cambridge University in the UK, allowing foreigners to visit. It aroused a lot of interest from people. She collected original Korean traditional music songs and props and released her second album, ‘Reminiscence’, on the SONY Classical label in 2014.

In order to help the public easily access classical music, which is the main core of the theme concert, Yoo Si-yeon is highly regarded as a music commentator by delivering professional commentary that provides insight into music history in a friendly manner. In addition, in order to spread the culture of classical music appreciation among growing youth through a series jointly sponsored by the Byucksan Cultural Foundation and the Mecenat Association, the group has been participating in education for future classical audiences by visiting local middle and high schools since 2015 to hold concerts.

Siyeon Yoo is currently working as a professor at the College of Music at Sookmyung Women’s University, and in addition to performing solo, she also performs chamber music as a member of ‘Trio de Seoul’ and ‘Nostalgia Ensemble’. He is also serving Korean musicians as a board member of the Korean Music Association.

After October 16, renowned figures in the classical world who are shining in Korea are scheduled to appear, including mezzo-soprano Yang Song-mi (Professor at Kyungsung University), cellist Yeo Mi-hye, cellist Lee Kang-ho (Professor Han Ye-jong), and pianist Kim Gyu-hyeon (Professor at Seoul National University).
