The Moravian-Silesian police reported on the case on Wednesday. The assault took place last year at the end of October in Vřesinská Street in Ostrava-Porubá. A man attacked a 75-year-old woman who was walking on the sidewalk, and while dragging her purse, threw her to the ground and dragged her several meters behind him. He then fled the scene.
A random witness who called the police to the scene contributed to his identification and managed to take a photo of the perpetrator. The police subsequently found the stolen purse near the crime scene with almost all of its contents.
The police managed to identify the 22-year-old foreigner in a relatively short time.

“In connection with the search, checks were also carried out in accommodation facilities. The suspect was found to be moving across Europe. During the investigation, it also became clear that the suspect could also impersonate a deaf-mute in several places in our region and collect money from people under various legends for a non-existent fundraiser,” said police spokeswoman Eva Michalíková.
Thanks to cooperation with Interpol, the man was recently arrested in Romania.
“He was subsequently flown to the Czech Republic, accused of robbery. He cooperated with criminal investigators, fully confessed to his actions. If found guilty, he faces a prison sentence of two to ten years. A request for detention was filed, which the court accepted,” the spokeswoman added. Not far from the scene of the crime, the police also found a purse with almost its entire contents.
