“Violent Robbery at Silver Spring Shopping Center Raises Concerns Among Workers About Lack of Security”

Workers at a shopping center in Silver Spring, Maryland are concerned about a violent robbery that took place at an area restaurant on Sunday. According to several employees, it was not the first time that an incident like this happened, and they even assure that thefts seem to be the daily bread in the area.

In a video released by the Montgomery County police, two men can be seen entering America’s Best Wings with firearms, where they not only robbed but also assaulted employees.

“Security in this mall it’s not good,” said Agustín Montú, a worker in the area. “There is no policeman who must pass by here from time to time, knowing the way he is [centro comercial] is. There is no security.”

But robberies at establishments in the area are not something new for the community.

“I was in the beauty about two months ago and within beauty the boys got in,” said Amelia Rodríguez, another worker. “I was there and they almost took everything away from everyone, except me, because one of them seems to have known me. I don’t know, as they always come here to the restaurant and they know me, maybe that’s why”.

Situations continue to haunt the tranquility of some. Meanwhile, the county police say the most important thing is not to deal with criminals, and ask business owners for the following.

“We recommend these business owners install high resolution security cameras outside and inside their restaurants and install panic buttons in different areas of their restaurant so that the police can be alerted quickly and we can defend them and catch them. those responsible,” said Carlos Cortés, from the county police.

Just on Tuesday, the county council approved the security plan for night businesses that could require them to hire private security and improve outdoor lighting, as well as install security cameras.

The measures would be for businesses that are open from 2 a.m. to 5 a.m. or those that are open from midnight to 2 a.m. and have received more than two police calls in the past 12 months.

If the owners do not follow these suggestions, the county would not allow these businesses to operate late at night.
