Violent Incidents in Givors Town Center: Police Vehicles Set on Fire

This Saturday, April 27, Givors town center experienced a series of violent incidents in the evening. Two city police vehicles were set on fire. Groups of young people caused confusion. There were no victims.

The evening of this Saturday, April 27 was marked by several events in the town center of Givors. Two city police vehicles and two others from the city hall caught fire.

According to the Prefecture, everything started at the end of the evening. Five young children, aged 12 to 16, attacked another man. Quickly arrested, four of them were taken into police custody.

After an evening of violence, this Sunday morning, in Givors, we see the damage.

“In retaliation, groups of individuals set an ambush”. Around 11pm, mortar fires and rubbish fires were noticed. The fire spread to vehicles that were parked near the town hall. Two police vehicles and two other municipal vehicles were set on fire. The Rhône Prefecture is on social networks “Strongly condemn this violence” and they called for police reinforcements.

The front of the town hall was damaged. The incidents did not cause any injuries. No arrests have reportedly been made following the violence.

This Sunday morning, the vehicles will be towed and removed from the town hall courtyard. The mayor, Mohamed Boudjellaba (DVG) says it is “shocked and angry”. He adds: “Despite everything we do for young people, I can’t accept a bunch of people doing what they do.” He hopes that justice will come and convict the troublemakers.

Givors, a town south of Lyon, has about 20,000 inhabitants.
