The fire started on the second floor of the building, in broad daylight. It is 11 am and the firefighters, quickly alerted, intervene. From another access, they flood the apartment which occupies two floors. And in two hours, they announced that they had brought the fire under control. However, the fumes had time to spread throughout the stairwells.

The testimonies speak of children who call for help from the windows of the building, of children and teenagers who cry, who cry in the smoke of the fire. These are so thick that they left no chance for the inhabitants of this tower, a 19-story building in the heart of the Bronx, a popular district of New York. Victims were found on each floor: 19 dead, including nine children, and more than 60 injured. But a baby has been evacuated.
