Paraguay has experienced a night of violent clashes in the framework of protests against the management of the coronavirus crisis.
The clashes, registered in front of the Congress, in the center of Asunción, left at least a score of wounded, a dozen of them policemen. The officers fired rubber pellets and used tear gas and water cannons.
There were also shops looted and some vehicles burned. One person was killed by a knife, but it is unknown whether this death was related to the protests.
The public call that preceded the incidents gathered discontent expressed this week by health personnel and relatives of COVID patients, who denounced the lack of basic medicines in public health to face the pandemic.
Added to this is the delay in the arrival of vaccines, which are currently limited to 4,000 doses of Sputnik V. The protests led to the resignation of Health Minister Julio Mazzoleni on Friday.
