Clashes broke out again violently in the Ain al-Hilweh Palestinian refugee camp near the city of Sidon in southern Lebanon today, Saturday, after they had calmed down yesterday, Friday.

According to Lebanese media, a number of shells fell today in the city of Sidon itself.

According to Al-Arabiya and Al-Hadath sources, clashes in Ain al-Hilweh today led to 3 deaths. One of them is a member of the Fatah movement, and the second is Shadi Issa, brother of a prominent leader in extremist groups, Nimr Issa. The third person was the victim of a stray bullet in the Ghaziyeh area.

Ain al-Hilweh camp is the largest Palestinian refugee camp in Lebanon. The recent clashes prompted residents of the camp and the surrounding area to flee.

The previous round of clashes, which took place this week, between Palestinian factions led to 20 injuries so far.

Previous battles broke out last month for several days in the Ain al-Hilweh camp between the Fatah movement and extremist armed groups after Fatah accused the militants of killing one of its military generals on July 30. The battles left at least 13 dead and dozens wounded, and forced hundreds to flee their homes.

There had been a truce in effect since August 3, but it was widely expected that the clashes would be renewed because the extremist groups did not hand over those accused of killing Fatah leader Muhammad Abu Ashraf Al-Armushi to the Lebanese judiciary in response to the request of a committee of Palestinian factions earlier this month.
