PSP attacked fans before the Portuguese Cup match between Benfica and Sporting, following clashes between ‘casuals’ in the trailer area near the north top of the Alvalade Stadium.
The disrespect, with the throwing of bottles, resulted in several injuries. The clashes, after the arrival of buses from both teams, lasted two minutes until the PSP intervention team arrived.
Sporting’s ‘casuals’ awaited Benfica’s. The police, who were setting up a security perimeter, rushed to the scene, using batons to stop the clashes. There is no record of arrests.
