The match of the 10th round of the French league between Marseille and Lyon was not played today due to an attack by home fans on the visitors’ bus, in which coach Fabio Grosso was injured. The Italian coach of Lyon suffered a bloody wound in the face, the referee called off the match shortly before kick-off.
According to the media, Marseille fans attacked the Olympique bus on its way to the Stade Vélodrome and threw stones at it. During the attack, coach Grosso was injured in the face, and when he arrived at the stadium he covered his face with his blood-covered hands. Footage of his injuries then appeared on social networks, the most serious of which appeared to be a laceration above his left eye.
“He had glass in his face. I’m very angry, the players and the coach were preparing for the game and the fans were looking forward to it,” Lyon president John Textor said. According to him, despite the attack, his players were ready to play the match. “We did not ask for the match to be canceled. We were ready to play. The decision was not ours because it happened outside the stadium. We agree with the referee’s decision,” he added.
