A 72-year-old man was violently attacked by several people outside his home in Vieux-Condé (North), in the suburbs of Valenciennes, on the night of July 5 to 6. Discovered “lying on the public road“, the septuagenarian was hospitalized. His vital prognosis was still engaged on Saturday evening.
In the process, three individuals aged 18, 17 and 14 were arrested by the police and taken into custody. According to the Valenciennes prosecutor’s office, the victim left her home around 11 p.m., embarrassed by “the noisy presenceof these three people. The man then asked them to leave and an altercation broke out. One of the defendants, a 17-year-old minor, then punched and kicked him several times. The victim fell to the ground and continued to be beaten.
An individual charged with “attempted murder” and remanded in custody
In a press release, the Valenciennes public prosecutor’s office indicated that a judicial investigation had been opened for “attempted murder, failure to prevent the commission of a crime or misdemeanor and failure to assist a person in danger“. The three defendants, who have no criminal record, were presented before an investigating judge.
One of the minors, aged 17, was indicted for “attempted murderand remanded in custody. The other two defendants, aged 18 and 14, were indicted for “failure to prevent the commission of a crime or misdemeanor and failure to assist a person in danger“. The first was placed under judicial control and the second was the subject of a provisional educational judicial measure.
