The two leave a cafe on Nieuwstraat in Purmerend at about half past one in the morning. The girlfriend of one of these men has just arrived at that nightlife, and they want to eat something together at the Koemarkt. But it doesn’t get that far.
The man has left his bicycle on the corner of the cafe and goes to find it. Three people shout something to that one. So he decides to leave his bike behind and with his boyfriend and girlfriend he continues walking on the Zuidersteeg towards the Schoolteeg.
Surveillance images from the Zuidersteeg show three men being chased. They put on their hoodies and one of them is picking something up from the ground.
‘unconscious’
When these friends walk into the Schoolteeg, the two men are attacked from behind out of nowhere. The 19-year-old victim is thrown to the ground. He may have hit his head on the sidewalk, because he briefly loses consciousness.
He is also kicked on the ground. His 18-year-old friend receives a severe blow to his face. They leave her lover alone.
After the attack, the three suspects ran back across Zuidersteeg in the direction of Nieuwstraat.
Liquid food
The victims quickly seek help. The 18-year-old victim was taken to hospital immediately. It looks like his jaw is broken. He had to undergo several operations and could only eat liquid food for a while. The 19-year-old victim had a broken hip. The abuse had a big impact on the friend who saw it all happen.
The police also today released pictures of the three suspects through the NH Bureau as they walked around town before the incident. On the Zuidersteeg they throw something with a shopping cart. During the abuse, one of them is holding a stick or rod that he picked up from the ground a few minutes earlier.
