Violence to Animals is Not Halal Tourism

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno commented on the Canon dog case in Aceh Singkil, Province Aceh. Sandiaga emphasized that violence against animals is not part of halal tourism.

This statement came out because the Aceh Singkil Satpol PP reasoned that it had received a letter from the sub-district head regarding the implementation of halal tourism in the Banyak Island area. This letter became the basis for the arrest of dogs on the island which led to the death of the Canon dog which went viral on social media.

“All forms of violence against animals are not part of halal tourism,” said Sandiaga through his Twitter account, Wednesday (27/10).

Sandiaga explained that halal tourism should not hurt anyone. According to Sandiaga, halal tourism is a form of convenience for Muslim-friendly tourism.

“Halal tourism should not hurt anyone,” said Sandiaga.

Sandiaga also asked the Head of the Halal Tourism Development Acceleration Team, Riyanto Sofyan, to educate and promote true halal tourism to tourism industry activists throughout Indonesia.

“In the last week or so, our social media has basically been dominated by the case in Aceh. Where a dog was found dead due to poor handling, because some local officials were trying to clean up a halal tourist site. And this touched my heart. I want Pak Riyanto Sofyan and his team to be right “We really ensure that we educate and socialize this halal tourism,” said Sandiaga.

The Canon Dog case received public attention because a video showing the process of capturing Canon by the Satpol PP went viral on social media. Canon’s dog dies after being captured.
