Violence in intimate relationships, Prostitution

(iFinnmark) – We received information that there was a person who came up to Finnmark, with the suspicion that he could take advantage of a person in human trafficking, says police inspector Lisa Moon Sneve at the Finnmark police district.

In the period between April 2023 and October 2024, the man is said to have exploited a woman for prostitution in Alta and from other places. This comes out of the charge of the police chief in Finnmark.

He was arrested by us on Friday night together with the woman, and on Saturday he was taken out to be held back. They must have been arrested smoothly, said Moon Sneve.

The man has been detained for four weeks, with letters and visits prohibited throughout the detention period. He was arrested by police in downtown Alta.

The accusation states that the man is charged under section 257 first paragraph of the Penal Code, “for having forced, used or enticed a person to prostitution or other sexual services through violence, threats, abuse of position vulnerability or other inappropriate behavior”.

Both the accused and the victim are registered with the same residential address in eastern Norway. Police say the man and woman are both adults and must have been in a romantic relationship.

When asked by iFinnmark if he was caught red-handed, the police inspector says she cannot comment on that.

– Has this been going on for a long time?

– There is not much else to say except that the relationship between the accused and the victim is the basis for determining the time in the accusation, says Moon Sneve.

Appeal the decision

The accused man has pleaded not guilty and believes he did not commit any human trafficking, his lawyer says.

– The accused believes that the accusation is based on false witness statements, said defense lawyer Louis Anda to iFinnmark.

– Has the accused entered a plea?

– The defendant appeals the prison order. He disputes what he is accused of and believes that he did not do any human trafficking, says Anda.

The lawyer says that the accused has a relationship with the victim, but he has no opportunity to comment further on this.
