Violence Erupts in Givors: Mayor Condemns Riots and Calls for Justice

Events and clashes between young people and the police broke out on Saturday night in Givors (Rhône), where two municipal police cars and garbage cans were set on fire, Mayor Mohamed Boudjellaba said on Sunday. The riot lasted about an hour and ended at 11 pm. They did “a lot of damage”, said Mohamed Boudjellaba.

“It appears that (prior to these events, Editor’s note) one or more arrests were made as a result of a fight. Whether it’s connected or not, the investigation will determine,” said the mayor. “I’m surprised, we’re really doing a lot of things on the youth issue, we’re as one of the few cities that do the same,” he said. Mayor Donors has denied a few days ago on Facebook the burning of a backhoe loader and attempts to damage other construction equipment in the city. The two programs, however, do not appear to be connected, according to him.

On the social network “Additional resources @PoliceNat69 have been deployed,” she said. According to the mayor, “these are not special resources, but shared resources”. For now, the city plans to “review the system for increased police presence a little later this evening,” he said.

I accept it

Mohamed Boudjellaba also hopes that “justice will firmly condemn the troublemakers” some of whom show a “feeling of impunity”. “It worries me, we bring out murderers, we break, it’s free and I can’t accept it in a city like ours,” he said.
