Violence erupts as three people killed and 32 injured in New York and shootings rise 11% – Reuters

AT LEAST three people have been killed and 32 injured in a wave of violence that hit New York over the weekend.

The number of shooting victims in the Big Apple stands at 217, according to New York City crime data through March 13, an increase of 11% from last year.

Twenty-nine people were shot between Friday and Sunday in 24 separate incidents, according to the NYPD.

On Saturday, two city corrections officers were injured when shots were fired outside a Queens nightclub.

Gunshots erupted when a man, who had been kicked out of Showtime Bar and Lounge, allegedly fired into the nightclub.

The two victims, 29 and 31, were not known to the suspect and not the intended target.

Officers were off duty at the time as they were attending a party.

According to the gendarmes, the shooter fled and was not arrested.

Four shootings were reported in four hours as violence gripped upper Manhattan and the Bronx on Friday night.

Victims included two men who were injured in separate shootings minutes apart in eastern New York, according to a New York Post report.

A 28-year-old man was shot in the head during an argument inside a deli on Pitkin Avenue near Wyona Street around 4 p.m. Sunday.

The victim was taken to hospital in critical but stable condition on Monday morning, police said.

No arrests have been made in connection with the incidents, while a 27-year-old man was shot in the chest on the platform of the northbound C train on Shepherd Avenue.

The victim was also taken to Brookdale in stable condition.

Two suspects are wanted, at least one of whom is known to the victim, according to the report.

WAVE OF VIOLENCE

A man was grazed in the right forearm in a drive-by in the Van Nest section of the Bronx on Sunday night.

He was treated at the scene and did not require hospitalization, police said.

Cops said it was unclear if he was the intended target.
