Venice, 9 February 2024 – A question and answer between Elena Cecchettinthe sister of Giulia stabbed to death last November 11th by her ex-boyfriend, e Amadeus.
The controversy has spilled over into social media and concerns the space dedicated to the topic of violence against women al Sanremo Festival. And to accuse the show of “pinkwashing”, of facade feminism, after the monologue of yesterday’s actors of Mare Fuori there is also the young sister of the victim of femicide. “Of a little curtain drenched in pinkwashing victims of femicide and survivors get little of it. Could it seriously not have been done better?” This is the question written in a post on Instagram by Elena Cecchettin.
“Phrases from Baci Perugina”
“The phrases heard on that stage are Baci Perugina stuff – continues the message on social media from Giulia Cecchettin’s sister -. And above all: they are phrases about love. But love has nothing to do with male violence against women“, concludes the Venetian student who quoted part of the critical comment by the writer Carlotta Vagnoli.
Amadeus’ response
“I express the maximum pain for what happened to Elena Cecchettin and her family. AND I respect his opinion, but in my opinion Mare Fuori’s intervention was beautiful”, commented Amadeus and, answering a question, specified that Elena “will not be invited on stage. What if I call you privately? No, I do not know her. I don’t have a cell phone. I don’t think I offended anyone. You call someone when you have to apologize, not when you don’t have to.”
What is pinkwashing?
The term was used for the first time by an association to fight against breast cancer to accuse companies that pretended to care about the topic when, in fact, they only wanted to make money on the topic.
More generally, pinkwashing occurs when a company or person is an actor exploits mass interest towards a certain social problem, in this case we are obviously talking about feminicides, to make money or simply advertise and have visibility.
