Today, Wednesday, Lebanese-Palestinian meetings and communications continue to discuss the security situation in the Ain al-Hilweh Palestinian refugee camp in southern Lebanon, with violations of the ceasefire agreement continuing to be recorded, especially on the Hattin neighborhood axis, amid accusations against extremist groups of “destabilizing the truce and expanding the scope of chaos, in implementation.” “For external agendas, including Israeli ones.”

Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati held a meeting today in the government palace, which included a member of the Fatah Central Committee and supervisor of the Lebanese arena, Azzam Al-Ahmad, the Palestinian Ambassador to Lebanon Ashraf Dabour, Fathi Abu Al-Ardat, Secretary of the Fatah Movement, and the Commander of the Lebanese Army, General. Joseph Aoun, the Acting Director General of General Security, Major General Elias Al-Bisari, and the Director of Intelligence in the Lebanese Army, Brigadier General Tony Kahwaji.

Azzam Al-Ahmad said after the meeting, “It was agreed, and within a short time frame, to adhere to what we had previously decided, with regard to the necessity of stopping bloodshed, establishing a ceasefire, and handing over those involved in the crime of assassinating the Palestinian National Security Commander, Major General Ashraf Al-Armushi and his companions, and before them, Abdul Rahman Farhoud (a member of extremist Islamic groups), to the Lebanese judiciary, with the need for the displaced to return to their homes.”

Al-Ahmad indicated that the Lebanese leadership “will make contact with all parties, with the aim of implementing these decisions and delivering them to everyone without exception, including those holed up in schools, which must be evacuated as quickly as possible, before the school year begins, and the camp’s students are deprived.” There are more than 6,000 people continuing their studies.”

Al-Ahmad warned that “there are those who want to expand chaos and conflict, and this was demonstrated by the random shooting and bombing that was not limited to the camp, but rather affected some parts of the city of Sidon, and sites and barracks of the Lebanese army, as if there was someone giving them instructions to blow up the security situation in the region.” And outside the borders of Ain al-Hilweh, which confirms that there is a bigger conspiracy than some imagine,” he said, noting that Lebanese officials know this.

He also pointed out that “outlaw and terrorist elements are exploiting the nature of the Ain al-Hilweh camp, and insist on violating the ceasefire decision in implementation of foreign agendas that do not want good for Lebanon, and are trying to benefit from the presidential vacuum and the political and economic crisis in the country,” stressing in return: “We trust the wisdom of the Lebanese leadership and its ability to confront such attempts, and we will be by its side, coordinating all steps together, without taking any action alone.”

In this context, Al-Ahmad said: “Yesterday, there was contact from the intelligence of a foreign country inside Lebanon with those implementing its agendas, to follow up on the situation, and thus incite or provide temptations to them to serve the program, and Israel is not far from what is going on.”

He added: “Yesterday we met with the Hamas movement. There were disagreements throughout this period on some detailed issues, but with regard to the Ain al-Hilweh crisis, we agreed on the points mentioned above, which were raised with Mikati and other officials, especially the security officials, and we will remain in contact with everyone.” factions of the Palestine Liberation Organization for this purpose, and to support the movements of the Palestinian Joint Action Committee.”

Yesterday, Tuesday, a meeting was held at the Palestinian embassy in Beirut, between the Fatah and Hamas movements, in which a number of points were agreed upon, most notably “confirming the decision of the Palestinian Joint Action Authority to commit to establishing a ceasefire, and confirming the decision of the Palestinian Joint Action Authority to hand over… “Those wanted in the crime of assassinating Al-Armushi, his companions, and Abdul Rahman Farhoud, to the Lebanese judiciary to take what is necessary regarding them, and to confirm the decision of the Palestinian Joint Action Committee to assign the joint security force to carry out the duty entrusted to it.”

It was also agreed to “work to facilitate the return of the displaced to their homes, accelerate the evacuation of schools to rebuild the damage they sustained as quickly as possible, and continue coordination with the Lebanese state and all its institutions.”

The recent clashes between Fatah and extremist groups, which have continued in varying degrees depending on the axes, since last Thursday night, resulted in the killing of at least 8 people, the wounding of more than 70 others, and the displacement of hundreds of families, in addition to recording serious material damage that was not limited to the Ain camp. Al-Hilweh, but also included commercial centres, buildings and establishments in the city of Sidon.

The shells struck Lebanese Army posts spread around the Ain al-Hilweh camp, resulting in injuries among its members, and they were transferred to nearby hospitals for treatment.
