Vinyl records surpass CD sales in the United States.

Vinyl record sales continue to grow in the United States, reaching $1.7 billion in revenue in 2022, an increase of 4% over the previous year. This was announced by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) on Thursday, March 9, 2023.

This is not the first time that revenues from vinyl have surpassed those from CDs. In 2020, this had already been the case, but in 2022, for the first time, the number of vinyls sold also exceeded that of CDs. The vinyls, these black analog discs with sides A and B, have thus been sold to the tune of 41 million copies, against 33 million for the CDs.

This upward trend in vinyl sales is partly explained by consumer nostalgia for traditional records, as well as the rise of music streaming platforms, which have revived interest in physical records.
