Vinkele: People should not look for creative ways to circumvent Covid-19 restrictions – Latvia – News

The politician agrees that the trade restrictions adopted at the government’s December 1 meeting were not immediately clear and unambiguous, but their main goal – to reduce the number of physical contacts and the movement of people – does not change.

“If the level of mutual trust in the society were higher, it would be enough to regulate that only food and basic necessities should be sold on holidays, mentioning the content description, which is meant by that,” the minister states. However, what discourages such a scenario of action, according to Vķķele, is to be found in the experience so far, which proves “how extremely creatively interpreted content as if it were clear restrictions”.

According to her, after listening to the regulatory shortcomings indicated by the public, they are still being corrected today, so it will still be possible to buy window washer fluid and magazines at gas stations.

The Minister notes, inter alia, that the range of restrictions used to reduce the prevalence of Covid-19 worldwide is similar. Priority is given to significantly restricting or prohibiting on-site events – both public and private, as well as public catering and shopping.

“In the autumn outbreak of Covid-19, access to food and basic necessities is not uncommon. In Belgium, for example, non-food compartments in food supermarkets are closed and food and basic necessities are traded,” the politician cites as an example.

Meanwhile, similar restrictions will come into force in Latvia on Saturday. In social networks, people express polarized opinions – there is quite a lot of outrage and misunderstanding.

However, the Minister emphasizes that the restrictions are until January 11, which is a period of 39 days, of which the said trade restrictions will be only 14 days – only on weekends and public holidays, while on weekdays closed sections and shops will be open again.

The Minister also reminds that fewer contacts will lead to fewer infections, and thus fewer Covid-19 patients will end up in hospitals. Thus, if there are fewer Covid-19 patients in hospitals, there will be fewer medical professionals and more services for other patients who also need help. “And sooner back to normal life,” adds Vickel.

It has already been reported that on Tuesday, the government adopted a series of even stricter restrictions on Covid-19 to curb the rise in morbidity.
