On Tuesday morning, Nikos Romanos, who was allegedly arrested for the robbery of Ampelokipi on Monday afternoon, while on his way to his home in Neo Psychiko, will be brought to the public prosecutor’s office on Tuesday morning.
The authorities proceeded to arrest him after finding his fingerprints in the apartment on Arkadias Street in Ampelokipi.
In particular, among the findings found by the Police, there was also a bag containing a weapon. The weapon, as shown by the ballistic test, was “clean”, that is, it had not been used in any criminal act.
However, from the check the police managed to find a fingerprint. Doing the relevant search in the Police register, they found that it belongs to Nikos Romanos.
Who is Nikos Romanos?
Nikos Romanos was one of the friends of 15-year-old Alexis Grigoropoulos, who was murdered in 2008 by former special guard Epaminondas Korkoneas.
In 2013, he was arrested along with three other people for an attempted armed robbery at a bank in Velvedo, Kozani.
He was accused and acquitted of participation in the terrorist organization “Conspiracy of Cores of Fire”, while Nikos Romanos was sentenced in the second degree to 11 years in prison.
In fact, he was sentenced to 18 years in prison for possessing and planting explosive devices in 2012. In 2019, he was recognized for good behavior in prison by the Criminal Appeals Court.
So his sentence was reduced from 18 to 14 years, which helped him to be released after six years in prison.
It is worth mentioning that while he was a prisoner in Avlona prisons, Nikos Romanos had occupied the Greek and international media when he started a hunger strike, as he was not granted the educational permits for his studies at the TEI of Athens.
The hunger strike lasted 31 days, with doctors repeatedly stressing the risks to his health, and him speaking of a “significant victory” after the Samara government amended the “bracelet” for prisoners.
