Vinciane Debaille, researcher at ULB, will drive a robot on Mars

The US space exploration agency (NASA) will send a new robot to Mars this summer. Five European scientists participate in the mission, including Vinciane Debaille, researcher at the Free University of Brussels (ULB).

A new robot, named “rover Perseverance”, will be sent between July 30 and August 15, and should land on the red planet in February 2021. The mission aims to carry out chemical and mineralogical analyzes, in order to explore the different geological layers of the Jezero crater. The robot will also drill core cores, which a second robot will come to collect in five to 10 years.

The European Space Agency (Esa) has appointed five scientists to participate in the NASA mission. Vinciane Debaille, researcher at ULB, is one of them. His work will notably consist of driving the robot, documenting observations, processing data, etc. (with Belga)
