After two years of battling lymphoma, the time has finally come. On Wednesday, six-year-old Vince from Beverwijk received his last treatment and was finally allowed to go home. He was picked up in a hummer limousine and accompanied by Santa Clauses on motorcycles he was transported to the Wijkertoren. A festive welcome awaited him there.
It was a big day for little Vince, after two years of battling lymphoma he was allowed to go home. The festive route started at the Princess Maxima hospital. The white hummer limousine with his name on it and the Santa Clauses on motorcycles attracted a lot of attention. “I’m very happy,” says young Vince. “Everyone was looking at us on the highway.”

Inflamed tonsils
The trouble started more than two years ago, when Vince developed lumps on his neck. His parents, Thomas and Celeste Neve, initially thought it was inflamed tonsils. But it turned out to be much worse.
His lymph nodes continued to hurt and it turned out to be cancer. “We found out in September 2021. Your world is turned upside down then.”
A close friendship
Minko van Es and Arno van Kampen founded Santa Maxima together. Minko’s sister was a colleague of Vince’s mother heard the news and told Minko. When he heard about the little boy, he wanted to encourage the family.
Santa Maxima is a platform that raises money for the leisure department of pediatric oncology. “After his first operation, we gave him a teddy bear as a gift,” said Minko. “Since then the friendship has developed and we are in regular contact.”
A great wish
Every year around the Christmas period, Santa Maxima’s Santa Clauses ride motorcycles dressed as Santa Claus to raise money. Today Minko rides on the motorcycle dressed as Santa Claus, together with his friends. “We organized this especially for Vince. It was his wish to return home in a hummer, accompanied by Santa Clauses.”
It was also a fantastic day for the parents. ”Vince has been healed. We are finally free,” the parents said.
