Vincenzo Patella is the new president of the Italian Society of Allergology, Asthma and Clinical Immunology

Vincenzo Patella is the new president of Italian Society of Allergology, Asthma and Clinical Immunology (SIAAIC), which brings together approximately 2000 allergists from universities, hospitals and local facilities. Director of the Complex Internal Medicine Operational Unit for Immune and Allergology at the ASL of Salernouniversity professor in charge of the School of Specialization in Allergology and Clinical Immunology of the “Federico II” University of Napoli and author of over 200 scientific publications, Prof. Vincenzo Patella is among the leading experts on the risks of pollen allergies linked to climate change. Elected at the helm of SIAAIC, on the occasion of the 36th national congress of the scientific society just concluded in Rome, he will be at the helm of SIAAIC until 2026.

“It is my intention to put the commitment to promote fairer access to allergy vaccines throughout the national territory at the center of SIAAIC’s action – declares Patella -. Currently, in fact, specific immunotherapy is reimbursed in “patchy” regions and remains a chimera for millions of patients, despite being the best therapy recommended by international guidelines for respiratory allergies and those to insect bites. We will also give impetus – he adds -, to knowledge about allergies to drugs, especially to antibiotics, through training courses and a ‘de-labelling’ campaign aimed at verifying the real presence of allergies, as cases of patients mistakenly labeled as allergic to drugs which they have never received clinical confirmation from diagnostic tests. We will also aim to further develop the registers established within the company: SANI and MANI dedicated to asthma patients, severe and moderate respectively, RIAT for immunotherapy and LUNET aimed at individuals affected by Lupus. But also to the promotion of collaborative relationships with the Italian Society of Aerobiology, Medicine and Environment (SIAMA), in order to use the monitoring data of the control units to verify the impact of the environment on the increase in allergic and immunological pathologies – underlines Patella -. Finally – he concludes -, we are already working to collaborate on the creation of international scientific events both with the WAO (World Allergy Organization) and with the EAACI (European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology) to be held in Italy over the next two years”.
