Vincent van Gogh statue theft justified and revealed: New Year’s Eve association behind the action

The meter-high statue of Vincent van Gogh that disappeared from Assen is justified. The artwork has surfaced in Vledder. New Year’s Eve association De Oliebol is behind the theft.

The statue was located at the Kop van de Vaart in Assen as part of the Vincent van Gogh exhibition that runs until January 7. On December 12, the artwork appeared to have disappeared. A sign was left at the site of the statue with the text: “I was surprised last night, I am now somewhere else with my brush.”

Because of that text, it was already assumed that it was a New Year’s Eve stunt. De Oliebol has now announced that it is behind the action. Tonight the statue was presented at restaurant De Tippe in Vledder. The New Year’s Eve association wants to drive the meter-high Vincent on a cart through Vledder on New Year’s Day from 1.30 pm.

De Oliebol still has a report pending from the Vaart business association in Assen. If the statue was returned before Christmas, the report would be withdrawn. But the New Year’s Eve association did not respond to this. De Oliebol has announced that it will contact the people of Assen about replacing the statue.

Board member Tim de Rooij of De Oliebol talks about the kidnapping of Vincent van Gogh:
