Vincent Croiset still has a ‘kidnapping’ father in the stomach

Vincent opens a booklet in the magazine about his childhood, in which he greatly looked up to his famous father. “At the same time, his fame also caused a kind of kink in my life, because a very special event took place during my puberty. My father once ‘kidnapped’ himself. That’s a very strange sentence, but it’s exactly what’s going on was,” the actor tells the magazine.

The incident was widely reported in the press. There was no social media at the time, but according to Vincent, his father was just as publicly pilloried as the people who are now accused of transgressive behaviour. “Falling off your pedestal, I have a huge fascination with that, because I know very well what it is like when you no longer dare to walk down the street for fear of photographers in front of your door,” he continues. “In the case of Marco Borsato, I immediately thought of his children. This must be such a terrible period for them.”

He has since been able to distance himself from it, but that took years. “For a long time I was very suspicious and on my guard: are they for or against me? People were always interested, but I never knew exactly what they were after,” says Vincent. “That got in the way a lot and shaped me in that sense, because it still takes a while before I have the confidence to expose myself to people.”
