The philosopher Vincent Cespedes has caused much ink to flow since the broadcast of “Traitors” on M6. Considered arrogant and too sure of himself, the philosopher defends himself and says he gave his all to the TV game.

TELEVISION – Nicknamed by many viewers the ” head slaps of the season, the philosopher Vincent Cespedes has not left many people indifferent since he became one of the faces of the M6 show Traitors.

The second edition of this game show has been broadcast since July 12 every Wednesday in prime time. And this year, 18 candidates are taking part in a giant “werewolf” game (named after the board game Les Loups-Garous de Thiercelieux), in which each had a role assigned at the start of the show: the traitors of one side, those who are loyal on the other.

Among the personalities who play, we find the politician Jean Lassalle, unsuccessful candidate for the last presidential election, the former fencer and minister Laura Flessel or the couple of YouTubers Juju Fitcats and Tibo Inshape. But despite their notoriety or their profile, it is not these candidates who make the public react the most. In this role, we rather find the philosopher Vincent Cespedes.

“Leader of the Loyal”

The intellectual quickly took on a decision-making role, even a little arrogant for some, his opinion being listened to and followed from the start. A role of authority figure that can indeed annoy, viewers having a field day to spread their anger on social networks with each broadcast of the traitors.

In the episodes, the 49-year-old philosopher bluntly exposes his point of view. And because of his assurance, the other participants tend to follow his analyzes to point to the ” traitor of the band that deserves to be eliminated. This was particularly the case during episode 6, when Vincent Desagnat was pushed out: Vincent Cespedes managed to convince everyone that the actor was one of the traitors… but he was wrong.

However, this error did not dampen the enthusiasm of Vincent Cespedes. In the last episode, he thus continued to be “the leader of the loyal”, as the cook Norbert Tarayre humorously pointed out in this episode 8. The philosopher had Charlotte de Turckheim in his sights this time, and he tried to convince everyone to eliminate her. With success once again, and to discover, this time, that the actress was indeed a ” traitor ».

But despite this latest success, his pugnacity continues to disturb some of the public on social networks, and some continue to find him far too sure of himself:

Hold its role

Criticisms to which the interested party decided to respond, in particular evoking a label of ” intellectual » not so easy to wear. Vincent Cespedes has indeed returned pour Puremedias on this sometimes harshly criticized influence. According to him, it was inevitable to give everything in the game, to live this experience by throwing yourself headlong into it. “I don’t see any point in committing to something by doing it like a ghost. If it’s to do extras and be a flowerpot, it’s not worth it and it’s not what is expected of a philosopher in this game. On the contrary, he justifies his sometimes divisive behavior: “Being discreet would have been a very bad strategy. »

Or si Traitors Although it may be an entertainment program, the candidates are followed by a psychologist before and during the filming, which lasts about ten days. A gripping experience, and even “tense and addictive », as Vincent Cespedes described it during a press conference presenting season 2 at which le HuffPost had attended.

Moreover, this intense involvement of Vincent Cespedes undoubtedly finds an explanation in his objects of study as a philosopher. In the early 2000s, during the broadcast of the first reality show in France, Loft Storyhe had decided to analyze the resounding success of this television novelty by writing his first essay: I Loft You.

Already at the time, the philosopher distinguished himself by his strong opinions and his virulent criticism of the ” show “. But in 2023, it is him that we find highlighted in Traitors.

Moreover, Vincent Cespedes was caught in the trap of what he denounced in 2001 by participating in the game: he recently explained that the editing of the show could render a biased version of reality. “(A passage) lasted 10 minutes “, he actually lamented in the columns of Here is. On the television, ” you have 3 seconds, but (in real life) it lasted 10 minutes. (The editing) is violent, it’s a game of bestiality… What you see there is rose water compared to everything we were experiencing. »

A program whose final is broadcast this Wednesday, August 9. The participants still in the running are Nathalie and Tom Pernaut, Jean Lassalle, Juju Fitcats, Andy Raconte, Norbert Tarayre, Genifer Demey and Vincent Cespedes. And among them remain two traitors to eliminate for the loyal: the youtubeuse Juju Fitcats and the cook Norbert Tarayre. A tough choice that Vincent Cespedes could use to shine one last time, and try to bring the jackpot to “L’Enfant Bleu”, the association for the fight against child abuse for which he competes.
