Vince McMahon retires – Tuttowrestling

In a completely unexpected and decidedly sensational twist, WWE reported the following statements from Vince McMahon:

“As I approach my 77 years, I think it is time to retire from my role as WWE Chairman and CEO. Over the years, I have had the privilege of helping WWE bring you joy, inspire you, thrill you, surprise you, and always entertain you. I would like to thank my family for making an exceptional contribution to our success, and I would also like to thank our past and present Superstars and all employees for their passion and dedication to our brand.

Above all, I would like to thank our fans for allowing us to enter your homes every week and choosing us as your entertainment. I have the deepest appreciation and admiration for our generations of fans around the world who have enjoyed, liked, and in some cases loved our Sport Entertainment.

Our audience can rest assured that WWE will continue to entertain everyone with the same fervor, dedication and passion as ever. I have full faith in WWE’s continued success, and leave the company in the capable hands of a group of Superstars, employees, executives – most notably Chairwoman and Co-CEO Stephanie McMahon and Co-CEO Nick Khan. As the majority shareholder, I will continue to support WWE in any way possible. I leave my personal thanks to our community and our business partners, shareholders and the board of directors, for their guidance and support over the years.

So. Now. Forever. Together.”

What will happen now?

The world of professional wrestling has undergone what is perhaps the biggest shock in its history. Vince McMahon has decided to retire from WWE. A day that for many he would never have arrived, but which in the end fell on all the fans.

As also written in the statement released by McMahon, the position of CEO will now be entrusted concurrently with both his daughter Stephanie, who will also fill the full-time role of Chairwoman, and Nick Khan.

McMahon has specified to remain as shareholder, while he should instead also leave the role of head of creative. A company meeting has already been announced to discuss the company’s new course, presumably.

It is not currently known whether McMahon’s decision to retire is linked to recent events and recent news about him, but it is a fact that many within the WWE and beyond, have always considered the now former CEO as a person who would never leave his baby until the end of his days.
