For the second Sunday in a row, the MotoGP was interrupted with the red flag in the second Red Bull Ring race, now due to an incident with Maverick Viñales.
At the beginning of lap 17 the M1 of Viñales he ran out of brakes, forcing the Spaniard to jump off the bike and leave it adrift, causing it to crash into the protections at turn 1 and then catch fire. The Yamaha rider got up on his own foot, without apparent injuries but had to leave the competition due to the mishap.
The race had to be stopped to repair the protection fence of the circuit, just when Joan Mir he was leading with more than two seconds of advantage.
Viñales he had already reported some problems with his bike and had lost several positions.
The race resumed and was surprisingly won by the Portuguese Miguel Oliveira aboard the KTM.
