Vilsbiburg – pm (03/15/20249 With a 1:3 (18:25, 25:20, 21:25, 21:25) home defeat against USC Münster, the Red Raben ended the Bundesliga intermediate round. Even before the game It was clear that the Vilsbiburgers would move into the playoff quarter-finals as third place in Group B – and eighth in the league overall standings.
With their win, the guests from Münster kept the possibility of finishing first in the group – assuming rivals Wiesbaden lose their game in Aachen tomorrow evening.
The Raben starting line-up with Hannah Kohn, Pauline Martin, Monika Salkute, Alondra Vazquez, Yeisy Soto and Britte Stuut as well as Libera Patricia Nestler had a hard time getting going in front of 1,315 spectators in the ball sports hall. The hosts reduced the quick 1:7 to 6:7, but overall the first set was clearly in Münster’s favor. The Ravens had to admit defeat by 18:25 over 12:16.
That called for a reaction, and it came. Because Vilsbiburg bit into the game with more energy, a close, hard-fought second half developed (8:7, 16:15), which was level for a long time before the Raben, in their strongest phase, turned 19:18 into 25 :20 made – 1:1, equalizing the set!
In the third period, however, the hosts proved to be late starters again. The early 3:8 was too heavy a burden for the rest of the game, even if the Ravens – from then on with 18-year-old Cayetana López Rey in the wing attack – got within two points at 13:15. Ultimately, this set went to the guests 21:25.
The fourth round also seemed to be conquered by determined Münster players with 5:8 and 9:16, but the Ravens knuckled down again and equalized with an intermediate spurt to make it 18:18. However, USC had the better end – in this set with 21:25 and overall with 1:3. The winning team’s MVP was the outstanding Libera Zoe Fleck and Vilsbiburg’s captain Monika Salkute. The best scorer of the evening was diagonal attacker Pauline Martin with 24 points.
After completing the intermediate round, the Roten Raben are now preparing for the playoffs, where they will face Schwerin or Stuttgart in the quarter-finals; The decision will be made on Saturday evening on the last matchday of Group A. One thing is clear: the Raben will play game one of the quarter-final series, which will be played in a best-of-three format, away on Saturday, March 23rd.
