The beginning of the match was very rich – already in the second minute Vladimir Cheburin’s students broke out, who took advantage of the recklessness of the opponents in the penalty area. After the transfer of Saulius Mikoliūnas, Renanas Oliveira hit his head accurately.
Kauno Žalgiris mobilized very quickly and equalized the result after two minutes. A spectacular volley from Benas Anisas almost resulted in a goal, but a good save from the keeper kept it out, and Moussa Sangare could only knock the loose ball wide.
Later on, the field was a fair game and both teams had a chance to score. Žalgirio striker R. Oliveira hit the ball near the right wing with a strong shot in the counterattack, and Moussa Sangare, who broke into the penalty area at the other end of the court, found himself in a convenient position to hit the ball into Tomislav Duka.
After the break, Kaunas residents returned to the game more successfully. In the 49th minute, Michael Thuique performed a great raid towards the opponents’ penalty area, and after his transfer to the goal, M.Sangare hit it exactly.
The champions who missed the finish were actively looking for opportunities to equalize the result, but the dense defense of “Kaunas Žalgiris” was usually not mistaken.
