The multi-ethnic and multicultural community of the Alexander Pushkin School in Vilnius today took part in a civic action to commemorate the victims of the Smolensk tragedy – they planted 30 oak trees. Seven years ago, the community began planting the Community of Nations Oak Park near its school in memory of Lithuania’s then-deceased friend, Polish President Lech Kaczynski (Lech Kaczynski) and the memory of the Polish political elite. The oak tree is considered a symbol of strength, solidity and long-lasting memory, and the care of this park is a symbolic gesture that shows the ability to unite and unite in the name of a common goal and a democratic state in which things prosper so that everyone can live.
“Vilnius is a multi-ethnic city where many peoples live together in friendship and peace. After a painful tragedy happened to our neighbors, friends who helped Lithuania and Europe become better and more democratic, it is important to keep the memory alive. “The trees planted by children will remind future generations for a long time that we maintain friendship with our neighbors and that we not only have a past that connects us, but also a future,” said Linas Kvedaravičius, Deputy Mayor of Vilnius.
This is not the first action to plant memorial trees in honor of L. Kaczynski in the park. Seven years ago (May 2010, 4), 96 oak trees were planted in the park (as many trees as people who died in the plane crash along with Polish President Lech Kaczynski and the delegation). The park was created at the initiative of the school community and continues to be maintained. This year marks the fourth time oak trees have been planted; there are currently 88 oak trees growing in the park.
Foreign Minister Linas Antanas Linkevičius, First Secretary of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Vilnius, Mr. Remigiusz Trojanek, representatives of the John Paul II Pro-Gymnasium in Vilnius and the Gabijas High School in Vilnius also took part in the planting of the oak trees.
